The Story

Perched above the vineyards of the Conca d’Oro in Panzano, Ca’ di Pesa is a home with more than 1,000 years of history embedded into its Pietraforte stone walls. The earliest records show a dwelling here in the early medieval period, when fortified farmsteads dotted the hills between Florence and Siena. Over time, the house grew into a traditional Chianti podere, surrounded by olive trees, terraces, and vineyards that have shaped life here for generations.

“Tuscany is the place where the beauty of art meets the beauty of nature.”

~John Steinbeck

Ca’ di Pesa captured the attention of the Florentine scholar Giuseppe Pallanti, renowned for his celebrated biography of the Mona Lisa.
While researching the world of Lisa Gherardini, he became fascinated by this property and its architectural lineage. In the medieval catasto (land-tax) records preserved in Florence, Pallanti discovered that Lisa’s father leased Ca’ di Pesa for nearly twenty years during her lifetime.
Pallanti later wrote an entire book about Ca’ di Pesa, tracing its medieval origins, its Renaissance transformations, and the enduring harmony between the home and the landscape that embraces it.

In 1998, the villa began a new chapter when an American family living in Asia discovered it and felt instantly at home. Restored with care, Ca’ di Pesa has become their place of retreat and celebration—sunlit meals under the pergola, early-morning walks through the vines, and the joy of watching their daughters grow up amidst these hills.

In 2004, the family replanted the estate’s vineyards, focusing primarily on Sangiovese, with small parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Working alongside a dedicated team, led by their brilliant winemaker, Diego Ciurletti, they have spent the past two decades crafting high-quality, organic wines that honor both the centuries-old traditions and the forward-looking innovations of Panzano’s remarkable winemakers. Their work reflects a deep respect for the land and a commitment to the character of the Conca d’Oro.
When the family is away, they are delighted to share Ca’ di Pesa with guests from around the world who come to experience its quiet beauty, its deep heritage, and the unmistakable feeling of belonging that this house inspires.
We invite you to be part of its ongoing story.
